What is the Anglican Church?

We believe that the way forward involves staying connected to our rooted past. The Anglican tradition emerged in England during the reformation in the 1500s. We describe ourselves as a contemporary expression of the one holy worldwide church. Indeed, our beliefs and many of our practices root in and come from the early Church.

The Anglican Compass provides more insight into our rich tradition.

Our History

The beginning of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church goes back many years. While Frederick was and is a thriving community in central Maryland, there was no Anglican Church here. Leadership in the Anglican Diocese of the Mid Atlantic envisioned and prayed for a church in Frederick. Then, in recent years, a small number of lay people living in or near Frederick gathered to pray for a local Anglican community. With the guidance and encouragement of diocesan leadership, they began to take small steps towards planting a church. In the summer of 2024 diocesan leadership called Reverend Seth Zimmerman to lead this group in planting an Anglican church in Frederick.
